The piece opens with the Gospel of John, “In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God…”. This refers to Christ’s pre-mortal existence with the Father before the creation of our world. In the video we are viewing actual deep space photography taken by the Hubble Telescope in 2018. As we pass by actual stars and galaxies, we are literally carried back to the very beginning. Indeed, the commencement of time and creation is symbolically announced by the opening, rhythmic pulses of the tympani.
