Lazarus Come Forth

Christ Raises Lazarus from the Dead

Text from the King James Version of the Bible

Music and Additional Lyrics by Vaughn W North

John 1:1-44

 The music opens with Christ’s command, “Lazarus come forth.” We then view the story as it began four days previous, as Lazarus was being tenderly cared for by his Sisters, Mary and Martha.  The scenes progress, concluding with Christ standing before the tomb, commanding , “Lazarus, come forth.”

Text:

Jesus:  “Lazarus, Lazarus come forth!”

And they wondered, hath he not laid in the grave four days?

Surely the Lord knows Lazarus is dead.

Then said Mary unto Him, “Lord, if Thou hadst been here my brother had not died.”

Jesus:  “Lazarus, Lazarus come forth!”

And when He saw him, Jesus wept.  Then said the Jews, “Behold how Jesus loved him.”

And Jesus groaned within and cometh to the grave.

Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid.

And Jesus lifted His eyes and said: “Father, I thank Thee, that Thou hast heard me;

That they may believe Thou hast sent me.”

And when He thus had spoken, He crieth with a loud voice,

“Lazarus, Lazarus, Lazarus … Lazarus, come forth!”

And he that was dead came forth.
